And note as well that Trump has bought the Supreme Court. It has granted Trump virtual immunity, creating of the Oval Office a seat of criminal activity (in the words, I believe, of Justice Jackson.) We are really at a terrifying point in human history. For one thing, Trump will give over all federal lands and water to the giant oil and gas corporations, ensuring the extermination of all of life on the planet. For another thing, he will institute a Christian fascism under which his enemies will be executed, perceived enemies of Christianity will be shot by vigilantes, and any rights that we still enjoy will vanish. And so once again, I fear we must vote for Biden. We live, friends, in an evil world, a world in which we rub our eyes continuously at the evils a state is capable of, while then banking that most recent set of atrocities in our belief system – that is: we are beginning to believe that the worst evils can take place, and now, in an era of world fascism, where those evils will not be checked by the rule of law. It is a terrifying time. I have no enthusiasm for Biden. None. On the contrary. But the only hope we have is reelecting him. Again, bear in mind that we do this because truly and surely, “lesser evil-ism” is more applicable now than ever.
